Gyu Kaku (Japanese / Korean Barbeque): I found this place by chance. I needed a venue for a birthday lunch and someone had the idea of something-like-hibachi-grill-or barbecue. So, I Googled and Yelped: what can we find around SoHo? Guy Kaku is in the border of NoHo and East Village (34 Cooper Sq). Be careful when you get there! There is no sign at the door.
I would totally recommend it for big groups (6-8 people) and for doing something really different. You get to grill your own food! Isn’t that awesome?
They have nice comfortable booths and two pits of fire in the middle of the table where you grill your meat and vegetables. The waiter tells you how many minutes you have to grill each side if you want your meat medium well or well done. They have 3 sauces to try with the meat (personally, I didn’t think they were to die for).
They have Lunch Happy Hour (served everyday 11.30 am-3 pm for food and drinks) and Dinner Happy Hour (Daily 3 pm-6 pm / Mon-Thu 9.30 pm-closing).
We got the Complete Lunch Set ($84 for 4 persons) and it also included S’mores at the end. For my non American friends that is a grilled marshmallow and a piece of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker. The hot marshmallow melts the chocolate and the whole thing becomes really interesting.
The Meat Lover Set is also a good Deal ($12).
You can also find them in Midtown (805 3rd Ave., 2nd Floor) and in Times Square (321 W 44th St.).
